Our Community Correspondent Mohanlal Shilu reports about the long-standing demand of tribals to be allotted ownership rights of land they have been living and tilling for decades. 45 families living in the village of Rainipati have applied for land ownership rights. But they haven't heard from the authorities ever since.
"A lot of people applied for the ownership papers. Some even got them. But majority are still waiting," said one of the villagers speaking to Mohanlal. According to the Forest Rights Act 2006, tribals who have occupied their land before 2002 will get the papers that proves their ownership of the land they possess. Mohanlal organised a meeting with the community and updated the local Sub-divisional magistrate about the pending status of their applications. Hopefully, Mohanlal will create an impact and help these villagers get their land rights.
